We would like to thank everyone who made our first ever winter opening a success.
We plan to do it all over again next year!
We have, however, decided to take some personal time and will re open the store on April 27th.
Thank you again and see you in the spring!
Bill and Theresa

We offer good old fashioned home baked goodness from our very own "Ooey Gooey Butter Tarts" to our popular Thanksgiving pumpkin pies. All of our baking is created by hand, from scratch, on site. All of our recipes are tried and retried until they are our absolute best because only our very best will do.

Happy New Year
Happy New Year! Welcome to 2013. We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
It is picture postcard pretty here in Haliburton right now and this past weekend the trail was very busy. It's nice to see winter tourism has finally began with the snowfall! And it has been falling!
On December 1st for the first time ever in winter we opened The Little Tart on Saturdays and Sundays. So far we're finding it was the right decision. It has given us a chance to try some new items such as: mince tarts (of course with our own filling made from scratch), traditional nanaimo bars, rice krispie squares, and this past weekend we added creamy chocolate fudge (we'll be experimenting with more flavors as the winter continues). Some of these items will carry on in to the summer. Needless to say, it has been a sweet winter so far!
If you plan on visiting the Haliburton Highlands this winter please come by and visit us at The Little Tart, we look forward to seeing you!

A Thank You and an Announcement!
Finally, a new blog post! It has taken some time to get here, but better late then... I really don't like cliches so let's just get to it.
Aside from all the stress and chaos near the end of the summer, Bill and I had a great summer season. We're always happy to see familiar faces come through our door and of course we're ecstatic when new faces become familiar ones we look forward to seeing for years to come.
We would like to thank everyone who visited us this summer. It was, without a doubt, our best yet. Every year we wonder "will they come back" and then you do and we can breath easier. Some of you have supported us from day one, long before we became The Little Tart. We're so greatful for you because it tells us we're doing something right and it makes what we do worth all the hard work. On those really hard days when we question why we keep doing this you come through the door with a smile and encouraging word and remind us.
We would also like to thank everyone who offered kind words and well wishes during a very trying time near the end of the summer. Both of our mothers took very ill. Worse, they both took very ill at the same time. On a happy note, they both recovered and so far are doing well.
What we realized as the 2012 summer season came to a close is that we are so fortunate to have some of the nicest, kindest and most thoughtful people come through our door. When we came home and found cards in our door and phone calls from people just wanting to know if everything was okay we were overwhelmed. Thank you so much for caring.
Now to the Announcement!
Bill and I have been discussing trying to extend our season. We have had so many people ask us if we will tsay open after Thanksgiving or will we be reopening in the winter. Well, we're a little tuckered out right now, but this year we have decided to OPEN our doors beginning DECEMBER 1st so watch for our open signs on Gelert Road on Saturdays and Sundays and we sure hope you'll stop by.
Thank you so much!

Pies! Pies! Pies!
We're doing it again! We're making changes at The Little Tart!

Cherry Pie |
You asked for pies and we've listened. It will take us a little time, but we are slowly working some new items into the store. What? Well, first of all more pies, more varieties. (Today for example we have a delicious blueberry, a scrumptious cherry, a mouth watering strawberry rhubarb and a dreamy coconut cream - all prepared from scratch of course.)

In the Spirit of Fairness
This may only be our third summer as The Little Tart, but
Bill and I have operated our business here for seven summers now and each year
we have had to implement changes in order to operate our business effectively.
We realize not all of our decisions will be met with approval, however there are only TWO of us
working here. We give every consideration to every decision we make and when we make a decision is it because it is necessary for us to be able to continue. We do not have a staff. We do not have voluntary help. The Little
Tart is a genuine mom and pop shop which means we do all the preparations,
baking, dishes, clean up, accounting, marketing, and the occasional stock run
all by ourselves. It's hard work, but it's the way we like it.
Going into our third summer as The Little Tart we have noticed the popularity of our business has grown. We are thrilled! And we are busy. Very very busy and we are trying to meet the growing demand of our customers
which leads us to our latest decision.
Due to the overwhelming volume of baking and in the spirit
of fairness, The Little Tart will now operate on a first come first serve basis
and we will no longer accept advance orders. We apologize for this decision,
but it is a necessary one to maintain a sufficiently stocked store and to make sure all of our customers feel appreciated because we do greatly appreciate everyone who comes through out door.
Thank you for understanding and your continued support.

Bring on the Summer!
HAPPY CANADA DAY!
This is good news because now with a quick tweet we can let you know of any sudden changes (ie: we've sold out and are closing early). We are trying our best to keep the doors open as long as possible this summer by trying to bake more, but there are only two of us and selling out is an unavoidable possibility.
So, if you don't want to make the long drive only to find out we're closed, follow us @the_little_tart on twitter and we'll do our best to keep you up to date.
See you there and hopefully we'll see you here!
